Kepler Survival (6 hours) Price: $180
You don't have to be Bear Grylls to walk on the wild side! In the safe hands of your bush guide, step over the famous Kepler Track and dive off track into pristine Fiordland National Park wilderness forest AND Lord of the Rings locations with us.
We'll navigate the bush well away from walking tracks, so you really feel you are in true wilderness. Discover unique forest plants including giant Gondwana Land trees, learn navigation skills, light a fire by a hidden river, look at shelter building techniques, and have a heap of fun in a magical paradise.
The day's about the survival of native birds too. You'll experience hunting and trapping methods to rid this unique place of destructive predators such as Australian possums.
We tailor the day to you. Some clients like to build fires; others like to toast the marshmallows and take photos. It's up to you whether you want to hone survival skills, or just have a day exploring paradise with a competent guide.
We meet at 9am at the Rainbow Reach car park (a 15 minute drive south of Te Anau on the Manapouri Road). Trip lasts until 2pm to 3pm, depending on how the day goes.
What you get
Skilled and passionate bush guide taking you to places you can't easily get to on your own, bush instruction, small group size (maximum six), Department of Conservation fees to join a guided trip in this remote area, rescue and first aid equipment in case of emergencies.
Requirements
This is an adventure in rough terrain, so you need reasonable agility and fitness to clamber over fallen logs and down small gullies and walk for most of the day. However, we do walk at a leisurely pace to reduce the risk of tripping over. Suitable for adults and active children aged 10 or older. Wear sensible outdoor clothes and shoes (see kit list) and bring a water bottle in a small day pack.
